Olivia Penpraze.
19 years old.
Died from a Suicide attempt that left her brain dead. Her parents made the hardest decision of their lives by turning off her life support.
She had a Tumblr account with over 900 posts sharing her emotional turmoil, dealings with depression, loneliness & thoughts about her wanting to take her own life.
The only response she got, was insensitive assholes, like the majority of people on Tumblr, encouraging her to do it. She was bullied consistently.
Olivia attempted to kill herself every year in May 1st since 2008.In May 2012, her short life came to an end.
I know most people can’t tolerate posts like Olivia’s, whom find it attention seeking.
My point to you people is…EXACTLY!!
Of course it’s attention seeking what else it?! People share that part of themselves over the Internet because they obviously feel they can’t talk to anyone they know nor do they think anyone would care.
All I want is for people to cut out the bullying & talk to people like Olivia.
A conversation to someone in desperation could save their life.If people can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.
You never know…
What you say could be used to decide whether they live or die.Everyone needs to be aware of this.
“Campaingers are suggesting the clip be shown in schools” - Yes. Yes. People need to realize that there is a cold, hard reality behind the strength of the words. Words can be far more hurtful than any cut of the knuckle in a punch, or scratch, or anything. Words cling and they go sour in someone’s mind because they can’t stop thinking about it. Kids aren’t getting it. They keep doing it. Adults do it. A majority of people on Tumblr are in their late teens, nearly twenties - and they still send that sort of hateful comments that curdle the mind and increase the temptation.
But seminars on bullying are always so vague. They don’t show the notes, or the devastation it does to someone. It only tells what you could do, but never gives evidence. It never gives something that’s more like a slap in the face; a drop in your gut. Teenagers are full of self-entitled “the world revolves around me” attitudes and their hormones and growing development claim that their word is right in every situation, and everyone goes through that point, so it’s understandable that it’s so hard to make them see -which is why you need to be real. You can’t sugar coat this stuff like I remember seeing in seminars. You need to show stories like Olivia’s and you need to show what she went through; the power of words.
Poor Olivia. I wish I could’ve been her friend, to help her. People continuously say that we’re not like the animals who kill the other in the kingdom, but I very much like to differ when things like this happen. We may not use teeth and fangs but our words bite as strongly as one.
Shame on you if you have ever had the gall to go tell someone to die; to tell them they’re worthless. Shame on you.
Posting this as a photoset. This man is incredible, I hope I can be like him someday :)
God bless this man.
